This's the post to note the start of Sunday in-game. Ryuk's, Haneoka and Atsushi are gone. New characters should note their secondary clothing items over at the setting post. As new characters can start arriving anywhere after 6AM, if you could note where your characters are then (likely sleeping), that'll help new players know where their characters can start in at.

Once you're ready to move on to the next day, that is once you've finished all threads for IC-Sunday, please tag this post saying as much. If you could poke it once a week to let us know you're still in the game anyway, that'd also be cool.

Reminder to old guard characters, as far as your characters know at this point, killing/voting is weekly on Saturdays instead of daily. OOCly we've shifted it to daily as a result of player feedback, but your characters don't know this.

New characters: your welcome letter's here. You'll need to be logged in to your account to read it. Check the [personal profile] sheep_dog  account for anything unlocked to your character specifically.

Thanks for sticking with us through a particularly long stage in which everyone was so busy. Taking eveyone's feedback into account, here's some changes I want to try tweaking with next round. Feel free to offer comments, etc. here as usual.

1. Post Formats
In order to help make the game faster, or at least leaving it with less unnecessary down time (down time because folks have lives commitments outside of this game is unavoidable), how's about we try having characters make 1 - 4 OP posts per in-character day. Whether you want to make separate morning, afternoon, night and/or posts per in-character day, or just throw up their planned schedule for the day in one post is up to you. If your character's going to spend the entire day in one place (such as L largely has for an example), there's obviously no reason to recreate the post for different time slots.  Characters tagging into the OP can state which time/place they're tagging into.

2. First come, first serve.
We'll try making it an official rule that it's first come first serve on prompts. So, let's say Character A makes a post stating their character will be fishing at the beach at 7AM, in the kitchen cooking by 8AM, in a bedroom checking e-mails at 9AM, etc., only one character can jump in on one of those location/time prompts. Of course, a third character is free to join the other two and threadjack, but no separate thread can be done unless the first thread for the same time/location spot has specifically ended with Character A still in the same place.

In general we've been observing first come first serve, as players have been deleting their posts if they've posted second in an unstructured thread chain, so I don't think this'll be a problem.

3. Right of Postponement
If you think interactions at 7AM may effect later ones, you're free to hold up on replying to 8AM tags, or to poke that player and let them know there's been a change of plans based on events that have happened. If someone starts an 8AM tag with you, and then after that someone starts a 7AM thread with you, OP has the right to redact the later-starting thread if it's impossible to avoid taking action that might nullify or change the in-character later but IRL-preceeding thread. Note that at any time, you can take a thread to a private locked thread. If a third character wishes to threadjack, they can tag in and the OP will be responsible for either linking the third player in to the private thread, creating a new private thread to keep the original private thread details private, or bringing the private thread back to the public sphere. Much like thread-jacking on public threads, it's preferred for you to assume the private thread was interrupted exactly where it was in progress at when the jacking thread came in. If this is unclear or you think it needs a better explanation, let me know. Of course it makes sense to me, I wrote it.

Another benefit to this system is that there will be some vague record for the mods' sake on where your character's been if later on you need to claim an action your character's taken subversively. This actually hasn't been a problem at all, but it's nice that this method will stop that from becoming one.

4. Day Passing
There'll be an OOC post put up with the start of each new in-character day. It'll include changes to the setting, which characters are dead, etc. Tag that to let the mods know when you're ready to move on to the next day. I'd like to aim for one week IRL = one day IC, so try to tag the OOC post at least once a week to let us know if you're in a thread that we need to wait on so that we know progress is taking place. Again, here's the latest one.

In other news, Atsushi's dropped from the game. There'll be a note given to the characters to assure them his disappearance is not part of the game, and the introduction of any new characters will be given some explanation. That said, confirm your new characters here so I know who's playing two characters, and you're all free to invite your friends. If you're a new friend invited, just pop on over to the apps post so I have your character's data. If there's a reason your character might not fit into the game (example: the motivations given to characters with special roles (killer, detective, etc.) that would have worked for all of the first-round characters would not work for yours), I'll let you know and we'll work out what we can to get you in. New mechanics may be added or shuffled based on cast numbers.

The killer has contacted the mods and declared that Ryuk has been killed. There's not going to be any corpse to analyze; you can imagine he goes into nothingness, suffers in whatever your idea of Hell is, goes to Apple Heaven where he sometimes eats pie with some gin and tonic, or that the game is just a ruse and he goes back to his normal life as if he'd been having a particularly weird day dream as part of some Apple Withdraw syndrome, whatever makes you happy. Characters will receive notifications he's dead, probably through a network post since I don't know if every character slept over night to have them wake up with a note. Feel free to have your character unaware if they don't check the network.

Once everyone posts in with who they'll be playing in the next rounds, we'll continue. Let me know if you're making any referrals to friends to join.

About to put out the IC announcement of deaths/vote offs, but since there's ongoing threads wit everyone I took the time to poke around and see what everyone thinks about these possible adjustments as suggested by players:

1. Break the custom DW rules on group threads and allow posting order to come as it goes. This requires everyone having the decency to wait long enough to not rail-road someone out of a thread completely, and also to have the decency to try to keep up regularly either with a filler pno reaction] comment or to keep up OOC communications about availability.

Having talked with most remaining players this seems to be favored, and we've got a successful thread with most of the cast going right now, but I want to make sure everyone's cool with this being officially allowed/preferred, since it is non-standard.

2. On open posts, first come, first serve, with join-ins, rather than finangle over how to handle potential overlaps. This encourages group dynamics and would alleviate confusion and timeline issues more essential to a mystery/psych game. Obviously, Network posts would be handled the same way as usual with no changes.

3.  New time/murder schedule.  Suggestions so far include:

A. One week = 1 IC day. One murder per IC day.
B.  Characters make a post for the IC day and everyone has to check off OOCly when they're okay with moving on to the next day. Has the same requirements of activity/upkeep as the thread break. There will be an IC notif given of the pace change, and we'll treat the disappearance/etc. as having happened on Day 7 with days afterwards being 8, 9, etc.
C. Your idea here.

The characters themselves haven't officially casted their votes or had the chance to discuss it but due to OOC circumstances, and after checking if it could be done ICly by enough to get a majority, it will be Haneoka Eimi. Thanks to Jisu for joining the beta, and feel free to hop in with another!  So, that said, is everyone READY for the IC notification of death/disappearance, or do players need to stall off a bit to determine if they're characters are going to be staying with someone who may potentially die/disappear, etc.?

Feedback appreciated. If nobody says they'll be inconvenienced by jumping into the post death/disappearance day, I'll put up the post tonight.

There's a group log in the main comm. The murder will take place IC tonight at midnight, but character A has until tomorrow at noon to get their pick to the RNG mod [personal profile] sheep_dog. It's best to try to try to get as many connections as possible tonight for the upcoming event. Right now I think only two characters have even seen or heard of the entire rest of the in-game cast.

Also, due to some OOC circumstances handled by the mod we're pretty sure we know who's ultimately going to be voted off but feel free to list here OOCly whose name, if any, your character will put on the bulletin board.

In other news, this timing thing is REALLY not working out. This game is moving much more slowly than intended. I think we've unfortunately demonstrated that it's not even remotely feasible to continue at the one day per day pace.

Looking at the pace of the game and taking suggestions I've personally heard, right now it's looking like a pace of one week equaling one IC day may have to be how it's done. I don't want this to be to encourage slower post rates by any means but the alternative appears to be assuming characters sit quietly in their rooms not seen by or seeing anyone for weeks at a time.

Is there an activity check process or a timing schedule that would work best for everyone? Would asking for one post a week be too much if it comes out to one week being one in character day? That would be the equivalent of requesting one post per day summarizing what your character does/allowing interaction with that.

As a reminder, if things are moving too slowly but aren't essential, you can use the OOC community to coordinate things. In general I'd suggest not handwaving since this game involves a lot of reading character cues and such, but the slow activity rate's been a major stress point as we come up onto the first murder and vote-off. If you guys need to handwave threads a bit or otherwise make plans that others might have their own character input on, feel free to use the OOC community.

Also don't hesitate to experiment with group threads, interruptions, etc. It's so beta in here that [insert fedora, feminism or fighting fish joke here; whichever amuses or offends you most]. Some things that are standard to DWRP might not work here and things that won't work in general DWRP might work fine here. If you're really not comfortable with the timing and placement of multiple responses to one post, use the OOC community or OOC comments to question or coordinate stuff.

Since all involved have agreed to stretching out the first week's vote/kill, we'll have the first week go at a 2/1 OOC/IC ratio; this means the first 'week' will have passed ICly not this Friday (18th) but NEXT Friday. As L-player mentioned, the first week will probably be the most exploratory, so we'll see if everyone feels like they're more in pace for the 1/1 ratio after this initial intro.

While there is some preference for the 1/1 ratio, nobody's particularly against a 7/3 ratio if that's the majority view, so if after that most still want to change the timing, the captor will send out a new letter saying killings/votings happen every three days and the timing will be switched to one week = 3 IC days. But for now, everything stays the same aside from a one week time slowing.

Next week Tuesday I'll post seeing how everyone feels and if a time ratio is deemed still necessary by most we'll switch it after the kill/vote period.

Also a note for clarification as it's been asked: Character A does not have to kill anyone on any given week (unless they got a tell that necessitates it.). Characters can abstain from voting someone off; while the characters may not know this much, if 2 our of >4 people vote Mikami and everyone else abstains, despite %100 of the actual votes made going to Mikami, he'd still be around.

As you all know, this game is a Beta game where we're testing some stuff out.

One thing some players have already come to me with is that the 1 OOC day = 1 IC day thing is not working out well, what with people having lives and all.

The solution I have in mind is changing it so that 1real life week = 3 in-character days. I'd adjust the letters all characters received in order to keep things so that deaths/investigations/votes still happen on RL Fridays.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Any other suggestions?

Does anyone mind if we change the game thusly, while still in-game?

If I don't get a response from all players approving a specific plan, it won't be enacted and will continue as laid out in the rules at the start. The plan we go with, which may be one of your suggestions, will be announced when it's approved so for now, things are still on a one day ratio.

Thanks for your consideration, sorry about the poor calculation of OOC schedules leading to the problem in the first place!

Update: Also, how do you feel about extending the first three days to TWO weeks while exploring the setting, as in L's idea below? This would mean the first vote/kill would not be on Sept. 18th but on the 25th. That seem too long to stretch out 3 days of interaction to you or not? Again, all changes will need all players' approval.

'Sup?

I haven't had the chance to properly say hi yet, so--hi! I'm Airlynx, and I'm playing as Atsushi, an interesting looking guy from Shiki, so this should be fun. Looking forward to playing with everyone!

I'm not sure what the protocol is, but not letting everyone know something their characters could probably react to seems against the spirit of things. Sometime on Day 2 characters might have heard a scream from this thread with Ryuk. Making a second post is probably overkill so I just updated the original post and put a notification up here. Neither of us are picky about the time of day if anyone reacts to it.

Greetings to everyone! Yet another Death Note character here, portraying the (usual) sideline-sitter shinigami, Ryuk. It'll mark my first time playing the character, or any Death Note character at all really. I notice we've others from the setting in here as well. I believe I've done what "synchronizing" I need to as far as getting timelines in order, but if there's anything you feel I ought to know, please let me know. Until then, I'll be in your care!

I've never played L outside of memes, and a mystery game is probably both the best place for him and the hardest place to play him as a player. While he might not survive the first week or find the killer, I'm at least confident that none of your characters will get the secret of the 11 herbs and spices out of him.

Hello, everyone! ♥

I'm Jisu, and I've just got the one character here: Haneoka Eimi from Kaitou Saint Tail. She's a bubbly, sparkling shoujo-manga authority who tries to be stern but can't help being silly, but there might be a bit more to her character than "mother of the protagonist."

I'm really looking forward to this -- it's going to be fun!

Hi there! I'm really excited to get into this mystery with everybody so I just kind of wanted to introduce myself. I'm Nikki and I'll be playing a Light from Death Note and later on, Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. We've actually managed to get a decently sized DN cast, which is pretty exciting in itself, but I look forward to playing with non-DN characters too.

So, just hi everybody.

If you're new to DW RP, here's a  guide.
Here's a link to the rules for good measure.

At the end of the game a general feedback post will be provided, as well as an all character HMD (How's My Driving -- Character Feedback) post, but feel free to post any thoughts here as we go. Thanks for being the Beta players! Apps for secondary characters are open until October 1st; new players not from Part 1 are welcome. Since the only way you'd probably come to know of this game is through a friend, all apps are auto-accepted for the beta round. If you've managed to lose TWO characters before October 1st, feel free to app a third.
